My father, Melvin E. Wooden, passed away due to complications related to diabetes. This page is an attempt to honor him by helping to raise awareness so that future generations look upon this disease as a thing of the past.
Diabetes mellitus, often simply referred to as diabetes, is a condition in which a person has a high blood sugar (glucose) level, either because the body doesn't produce enough insulin, or because body cells don't properly respond to the insulin that is produced.
Diabetes often goes undiagnosed because many of its symptoms seem so harmless. Recent studies indicate that the early detection of diabetes symptoms and treatment can decrease the chance of developing the complications of diabetes.
